Vines and scramblers
Vines and scramblers are adapted to either growing up or out across the ground using modified stems and leaves such as tendrils, twining stems, thorns and hooks. Climbers can be used as a ground cover or to decorate garden structures. They provide:
- Colour and texture through flower and foliage
- Privacy and screening
- As a green wall
- Provide habitat and food for insects (such as butterflies), small mammals and reptiles
This Hardenbergia violacea, or Happy Wanderer, is happily growing along a fence, giving beautiful purple colour each winter.
